I don't know, every time I see a short film in black in white, it just screams "artsy" to me. Sometimes I feel like the lack of color can be so much more poignant than the existence of it. That's why, when I'm trying to portray a feeling or emotion more than an idea, I immediately go for the black and white; color, I think, gets in the way of emotion.
Then again, it might just be that I think that black and white looks pretty...
